The forming history of the coastal plain of Central ViÖt Nam is closely related to marine trangression and regression cycles. The characteristics of sediments change very much in time and space. In seaward direction the sedimentary facies changes continuously from ap ® a ® am ® ab ® m ® mv. Based on the result of previous and recent studies of different geologists as well as of the author of this paper the history of the coastal plain development has been established and the Neogene / Quaternary boundary is also discussed.
