SUMMARY
Hazard of riverside erosion along the chain of B×nh Ch¸nh – Rïa – Phè isles
in the lower course of §ång Nai River

The B×nh Ch¸nh, Rïa and Phè isles are beautiful landscapes of East Nam bé. In these ancient isles of the §ång Nai River there are many archeological remains. At present, the isles are facing to several erosional risks. The rate and scale of erosion in the isles are growing stronger and stronger. Erosion is narrowing the isle area, changing the isle shape, influencing to the infrastructures and living conditions of people along the riverside.
The main factors causing the riverside erosion consist of: loose rock composition of the riverside, meandering of the §ång Nai River, change of the hydrologic regime after building the hydroelectric TrÞ An Dam and exploitation of construction sand on the river bed. Among these factors, the sand exploitation is the main reason leading to the hazard of riverside erosion in the isles.
The studied isles are located in the centre of the key economic zone of South ViÖt Nam. There are many interesting sites in natural and humane environment on these isles and their adjacent areas. Therefore, the protection and planning of the isles in accordance to the tendency of ecological tourism will gain higher economic and social effect.
