The water resources in ViÖt Nam is rather abundant: the surface water sources on the territory are 32.5 billion m3/year, if counting the water sources from neighbouring countries they are 889 billion m3/year; the exploitable groundwater reserves are 48 billion m3/year. However the water demand in ViÖt Nam increases from 79.61 billion m3/year in 2000, and it can increase to some hundred billion m3/year in the first decades of the 21st century, hence the risk of lack of water can occur in many areas, even in the Red River delta plain. Basing on the analysis of existing data, the authors propose next investigation, development and protection of the groundwater resources.
