Red beds at DÇu TiÕng were recognized only since the 80’ of the last century. The view on these sediments are different, because they are usually covered by Cenozoic sediments and not any paleontological or stratigraphical material has been recorded.

At the beginning of the 2002, the authors of the paper carried out field research in DÇu TiÕng and found that, red beds at DÇu TiÕng consist of two stratigraphic bodies of different ages, and unconformably lying one upon another: 1) the one exposed in Suèi §¸ (left confluent of the Sµi Gßn River, lying in the lower side of the DÇu TiÕng Dam), in the lower part of ¤ng Mt, Tha La Mt, Chïa Mt and §Êt Mt, consisting of sediments containing abundant flora fossils of, possibly, Middle Jurassic age; 2) the one exposed in CËu Mt (situated in the upper side of the DÇu TiÕng Dam), consisting of sediments containing Cretaceous spores and pollens, although not abundant, but of fairly characteristic forms.
