SUMMARY

Geological structure of the coastal and littoral areas in the Sóc Trăng Province    and adjacent areas

Ngô Thanh Thủy, Trần Trọng Thịnh, Nguyễn Tài Thinh

The characteristics of fault systems and geological structure of the coastal and littoral areas in the Sóc Trăng Province and adjacent areas has been clarified by results of processing and interpretation of integrated geophysical data combined with various resources  data.

The fault system is very complicated with 3 main directions: NE-SW, NW-SE and sublongitudinal ones. The Sông Hậu fault is distributed unequally about 40 km in depth, consisting of 2 faults, which are parallel one with another, and separated one from another about 10-15 km. Their direction is from NW-SE to sublongitudinal with the dip changing from NE (in the coastal and littoral areas) to SW (in the South Côn Sơn Basin).

The structural form, topography of pre-Cenozoic basement, and Cenozoic sediment thickness have been clarified, among them, the Cenozoic sediment thickness in the Trà Cú and Vĩnh Lợi subsided blocks reaches about >3200 m; in the NW Côn Đảo Island subsided block – about 2000 m; and in the SW Vĩnh Thạnh estuary it is relatively thin, with about 600-1000 m.
