The interpretation of shallow seismicity - high resolution lines of the
coastal and littoral areas and the Định An River bed, and the study
on drill cores in the Hậu
River bed and tidal flats
have been helping to discover 9 disconformity surfaces (R2-R10, with 7 in
Pleistocene and 2 in Holocene). In stratigraphic columns, these surfaces are
the same in the two forms of materials: seismic and drilling ones, and can be
used in the Quaternary stratigraphic correlation. The velocity of acoustic
waves in the area is of 1700 m/sec. According to the sequence stratigraphy, 9
sedimentary sequences have been divided, lying between reflection planes, and 4
formations have been established: D Fm (S1-2) – Q11; C Fm
(S3-4) – Q12; B Fm (S5-6) – Q13; A
Fm (S7-9) – Q21-3, equivalent to seismic members D, C, B
and A, which were suggested previously in literatures.
