Application of Green function method in the study on tsunami propagation in Việt Nam

The method of Green function has been applied for the study on tsunami propagation in Việt Nam. The results of calculation have been showing that:

1. The earthquake of Ms 8.5 occurring in the Manila subduction zone can cause tsunami in Vietnamese islands and coastline with the height of 2.5 m and after 75 minutes at Paracels Archipelago, 2.8 m and after 70 minutes at Spratly Archipelago, 2.5 m and after 150 minutes at Quảng Ngãi coastline. The earthquake of Ms 8.85 can cause tsunami in Vietnamese islands and coastline with the height of 6.0 m and after 70 minutes at Paracels Archipelago, 7.0 m and after 70 minutes at Spratly Archipelago, 5.5 m and after 150 minutes at Quảng Ngãi coastline; and gradually decreases toward Cà Mau and Quảng Ninh coastlines.    

2. With small distance, the North Paracels, Longitude 1100, Thuận Hải - Minh Hải, Cảnh Dương - Phú Quý, and Palawan earthquake sources (Ms 7.5) can cause tsunami in Vietnamese islands and coastline with the heights of over 2.0 m at Paracels Archipelago (from North Paracels source); 2.5 m and after 25 minutes at Vũng Tàu coastline (from Thuận Hải - Minh Hải source).

3. The height of tsunami can reach 10 m in the Quảng Ninh và Vinh coastlines if Ms 7.5 earthquake occurs in the west of Hainan Island (China).
