Preliminary results of determination of the point of zero charge (PZC)
of Phước Long (Tây Nguyên) basalt

At present, the bauxite exploitation and pollution treatment after exploitation are new and urgent for Việt Nam.

Environmental treatment by adsorption method is one of the pure wastewater treatment technologies, effective and suitable for treatment of wastewater. The quality of output water meets the required standard.

For the minerals and materials used as adsorptants of ion heavy metals, they usually need to determine their physical parameters, such as uptake capacity, enthalpy, entropy, half-time for reaction, order of reaction etc., and also a new experimental parameter: point of zero charge (PZC) (sometimes, it is called as izoelectric point - Ip).

In this study, we describe the experiment to determine the point of zero charge (PZC) of Phước Long, Tây Nguyên basalt by chemical method.

The PZC of Phước Long basalt has been determined in four KCl, KNO3, NaCl, and NaNO3 solutions with two concentrations 0.1 M and 0.01 M. The values of the point of PZC of Phước Long basalt 6.61 - 6.70 are not dependent on concentration and type of salt solutions. The pHPZC values change in a small value of ±0.03, which is the accuracy of pH instrument Microprocessor pH/Ion Meter pMX3000 (Germany).
