Detecting the change of urban land use in Vinh City, Nghệ An Province
by remote sensing data

Urbanization is the result of the economic and society development with the increased population of Vinh City, Nghệ An Province. Remote sensing data with the spectral and temporal resolutions has been allowing to detect the change of urban land in Vinh City during the periods 1992-2000, 2000-2005, 1992-2005 in less time.

The differences of the resolution in the remote sensing data cause different accuracy in the classifiable processes. The SPOT image (10 m) is more accurate than Landsat images (28.5 m).

During 14 years (1992-2005), the rate of urbanization in Vinh City is quite high. The area of urban land expansion is 16.06%, equivalent to 2470.1 ha, that reduces the area of other types of land of 43.04% (2471.2 ha).
