Delta lobs of the Red River Delta

Based on facial analysis, geomorphological features and isotopipc dating, 8 delta lobs have been distinguished in the Red River Delta, that are: Phú Xuyên, Nam Định, Ninh Bình, Kim Sơn, Ba Lạt, Hải Dương, Hải Phòng and Diêm Điền. These lobs started to be formed since about the end of Early Holocene, then were developed by extending, branching mechanism in NW-SE direction. Recently, the Ba Lạt and Kim Sơn lobs are in the constructive phase and tends to be developed rapidly seaward, while the Hải Phòng and Diêm Điền lobs - in the destructive phase.
