SUMMARY

Discovery of industrial titanium-zircon placer in the red sand of the Phan Thiết Formation in the coastal zone of South Central Việt Nam

Nguyễn Văn Thuấn, Trần Văn Thảo

The red sand belonging to the Phan Thiết Formation is largely distributed in the coastal provinces Ninh Thuận, Bình Thuận, and the north of Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu province with a great thickness. At the end of 2007 and at the beginning of 2008 years, the Geological Division of South Central of Việt Nam had discovered titan-zircon placer in this red sand formation, with the inferred resource (334a+334b) of 130 million tons with the content of titanium-zircon of about 0.9 %, in which zircon occupies about 15-20 %. This great discovery allows to suggest the Government in providing appropriate investment to geological survey and evaluation in order to have scientific basis for planning and developing the titanium-zircon resources in Việt Nam.
