SUMMARY

Potential of kaolin in Việt Nam and orientation of exploratory works
and exploitation serving the socio-economic development

One of the many industrial mineral resources, kaolin, has been known and used by human for quite a long time. Nowadays, kaolin is still considered as an important material and widely used in various industries. Kaolin is the main material in the production of pottery and porcelain, fireproof brick, in the use as filling material in paper industry, and in the use to make paint, rubber and plastic, etc. Kaolin is widely distributed and common in Việt Nam, and is mainly met in the West Bắc Bộ, East Bắc Bộ, North Trung Bộ, Middle Trung Bộ, Tây Nguyên and Nam Bộ. However, the exploitation of kaolin is massively developed, lacking of planning. Especially, the unreasonable usage has been causing the waste of mineral resources and badly influencing on ecological environment.

Thus, the all-round and full evaluation on the potential of kaolin will create a basis for orienting the exploratory and mining works, and zoning it as the fields of sensible usage, that will be necessary for the sustainable socio-economic development of the country.
