Abstract: This paper presents the field survey data and the analytical results of rock slope stability from more than 700 fracture measurements obtained at 16 survey sites along 4B Highway, about 100 km long by using Hoek and Bray’s application (2004). The survey data show that most slope surfaces along the road, the rocks are heavily weathered with a thickness of 2-5 m, occurred many sliding points in the area from 4 to 50 m2. The analytical results of the fracture orientations obtained at each rock slope surface along the 4B Highway and field survey data have been divided into three regions with different risk of landslide. The first region, from Mũi Chùa  to Tiên Yên is about 24 km long, can occur three types of failure: plane failure, wedge failure and toppling failure; the second region, from Tiên Yên to Na Dương is about 38 km long, can only occur landslide on the weathered layer; the final region, from Na Dương to Lạng Sơn is about 35km long, can only occur plane failure.

Keywords: Fracture, plane failure, wedge failure, toppling failure, 4B Highway.
