New results of the researches of geological features along the offshore
of Quảng Ngãi - Bình Định area (from 0 to 60 metre depth) show that the area is structurally complicated
with numerous fault systems that trend longitudinally, latitudinal, northwest-southeasterly
and northeast-southwesterly. These are the continuation of the fault systems
occurred onshore. New observations demonstrate that the longitudinal,
latitudinal and northwest-southeast trending systems are active in Quaternary,
which are indicated by the cross-cutting and displacement of the youngest
layers of Quaternary deposits by these systems as well as the occurrence of
earthquake centres and hot-spring exposures along the
fault zones. The active faults are major causes for the generation of
geo-hazards such as earthquake, shoreline erosion and landslide... As such, the
evaluation of active tectonics is very important for the forecasting and
mitigation of geo-hazards in the study area.
