Abstract:
In this paper, we determine the optimal
Tikhonov parameters in the gravity inverse problems - namely determining the
thickness of the sedimentary basin - using genetic and memetic algorithms for 2-D
and 3-D problems, respectively. The sedimentary basin model, whose density
contrast varies with depth as a parabolic function, composed of vertical
juxtaposed prisms (2-D) and rectangular blocks (3-D). This is a linear inverse problem;
therefore, the L curve criterion is used to determine the optimal
regularization parameter. The results showed that the optimal regularization
parameters are 0.05 for 2-D problem, and 0.01 for 3-D one.
Keywords: The tikhonov parameter, the l–curve criterion, the gravity inverse
problem, the optimization technique.
